Sky Sports 1’s Game Changers

Another week, another TV appearance for UrbanCrazy’s portable mini golf, this time as part of a Ryder Cup edition of Sky Sport 1’s, ‘Game Changers’.  The Saturday morning show, hosted by keen golfer Di Dougherty and former British athlete Darren Campbell, encourages young people to take an interest and get involved in all manner of different sports.

This edition featured some special guests who all had a great time playing the course. Adam Gemili, one of the Britain’s top sprinters, has won medals at 2014 Commonwealth Games and European Championships. Unfortunately, his sporting success didn’t continue here as he lipped out on his hole in one attempt!

Nine year old Robin Tiger Williams fared much better. Hailed as the new Tiger Woods, he shared his top tips with the audience on improving grip, alignment and swing. He recently won the 2014 British Championships at St Andrew’s and showcased his talent once again in ‘aceing’ our course!

Unfortunately, so far he has not been able to meet his golfing hero, but he was delighted to meet our very own lifesize Tiger Woods model who was there keeping an eye on the proceedings!

The programme’s main challenge pitted two teams of selected juniors against each other on our course in a speed challenge. They whizzed round, dodging our 3D letter obstacles spelling out “RYDER CUP” and the obligatory crazy golf windmill, to try and sink the ball as quickly as possible. It was exciting stuff – Mr Gemili himself would be hard-pressed to match their pace! And in keeping with the Ryder Cup theme, of course, the two teams were named “Team Europe” and “Team USA”.

The outcome of this competition saw Team USA claiming victory (boo!), but sadly for them this wasn’t reflected in the real tournament where Team Europe retained the trophy (yay!) with a dominant 16½ – 11½ point win over The States. Better luck next time, guys …

For those of you who may not have been fully conscious at 9am on a Saturday morning, here is what you missed.
