The client had a hardstanding disused courtyard alongside their Aquatics Store. Being an Aquatics store, they wanted a suitably themed, attractive minigolf course to add as an extra attraction to their shop, fish-feeding, indoor mini soft play gym and their café.
Focusing on the children demographic, we designed a course to fit within the client’s budget, fitting in a 15-hole course into the area. We took advantage of a disused shed on site and made sure the course was fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies alike.
With restrictions to what works could be undertaken on the site and with the hardstanding site subject to surface lying water, we had to create a drainage system and then build upwards rather than digging too far down. We incorporated fibre-glass features, along with a boat and an attractive natural boulder to act as a resting place.
The new course has been very well received with its colourful and fresh playfulness, with underwater inspired obstacles, marine-style decorations, and a cleverly designed layout. Combining a golf game with an aquatic-retail setting makes for a unique day out — you can browse fish and aquariums before or after your game, giving the whole trip a fun, exploratory feel. It’s not just “crazy golf”, it’s minigolf with a splash of something more.
We are going to need a bigger boat!
