ADVENTURE GOLF: AZTEC ADVENTURE GOLF, HUNTINGDON

WHY GO TO CENTRAL AMERICA WHEN YOU CAN VISIT THE AZTEC ADVENTURE GOLF IN HUNTINGDON

THE BRIEF

Our client approached us to convert a car wash at a garden centre into an 18-hole adventure golf course, bringing a splash of the ancient Aztec theme with a touch of Central American rainforest to Huntingdon.

Plans

The initial challenge for our design team was find a way to create a decent sized and attractive 18-hole adventure golf course that would appeal to all ages, into a relatively small area. The intention was for players to access the course via the main Dobbies Garden Centre store meaning that customers would potentially spend longer at the centre playing golf, buying refreshments or making purchases in store.

Our work

Our team worked hard and quickly on this project. Unusually the requirements were that instead of digging down into the ground, we had to build up on top of the existing hard standing. The borders were created using blocks with a concrete render finish so that it resembled old stone. Artificial playing grass was used for the surface and we incorporated existing features in a creative way - converting a container into a cave and canopy support posts into trees.

The results

The course was an instant hit. Throughout the construction phase, many people took an interest in what was coming to the area, with customers coming back regularly to see the progress and were itching to play. As a DDA-compliant course, people of all abilities have been able to access and enjoy the course with many returning to play again and again. As soon as it opened, it was a very popular attraction and was in such demand over the summer that there were large queues of people keen to obtain a walk-in slot as the booking system became full.

And finally…

The UrbanCrazy Aztec gods created a themed serving kiosk fully equipped with essential playing equipment, such as: putters; balls; masks; drums - you know, the usual!!
