Pembrey Country Park and Beach contacted UrbanCrazy to replace their existing old crazy golf course with a brand new 18-hole course, showcasing the activities and history of the coastal park.
Our designs incorporated features highlighting current activities on offer at the park including the dry ski slope, road cycle circuit and toboggan run. We also made reference to the site's interesting wartime past in our designs reflecting its time as a Spitfire airbase, as well as the tunnels and bunkers that were built there and the fact that at one time it even had its own railway.
We worked very hard in the face of extreme Welsh weather and despite the Covid-19 interruptions we soldiered on to complete this course to our usual high standards. We installed a new drainage system, our exclusive bull-nosed kerbing blocks, our colour Crazy Putt carpet and flexipave pathways.
The course finally opened after the first lockdown, just in time to catch the sunshine for the bank holiday August weekend. The management were delighted with the popularity of the course and reported that despite having to operate a booking system and limiting numbers due to Covid-19 restrictions, in those first few days, they had over 1,000 players - more than the whole of the August the previous year on their old course.
The Welsh Miniature Golf Association could not wait to have a tournament at this site and held its inaugural tournament at the course in early September. They all agreed that is was definitely worth waiting for!
