Charnwood Miniature Golf
A WONDERFUL NEW MINIATURE GOLF FACILITY AT CHARNWOOD GOLF COMPLEX AIMED MAINLY AT FAMILIES AND JUNIORS.
Already home to a 22 bay floodlit driving range, golf shop and all-weather artificial sports pitch, the brief was for us to create a 9-hole miniature golf facility that would help boost visitor numbers to the complex, especially amongst families and juniors. We were delighted to have won this exciting contract.
We had the novel idea of representing the 9 letters of “C-H-A-R-N-W-O-O-D” in the layout and features of the course. At the same time, it was important to remain faithful to our policy that all holes should offer the optimal game play experience. A weaving layout was designed to make maximum use of the space.
Not even the wettest January on record could dampen our crew’s enthusiasm! It meant we had to install a more advanced soakaway system than planned, but everything progressed well from the initial excavations to the installation of our unique kerbing and forming of the site contours. Finally, we prettied the site with rocks, plants and a couple of specially-commissioned plaques.
The grand opening in April 2014 saw a fantastic turn out from members of the public. They were joined by the Great Britain Minigolf Team and Charnwood’s Deputy Mayor Cllr Paul Day, Oak FM’s Twiggy & Mark and Radio Leicester’s Julie Mayer, all of whom were very complimentary about our work and the wider complex. It was nice to see Julie getting a hole in one on the very first hole!
