ALTON WATER

NEW BUILD OF A 9-HOLE COURSE SHOWCASING THE FEATURES, ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE OF THE LOCAL AREA

THE BRIEF

Having already rebuilt a course at their Rutland Water site, Anglian Water commissioned UrbanCrazy to construct a brand-new mini golf course on their site situated on the banks of Suffolk’s Alton Water reservoir. The features of the course needed to incorporate the reservoir itself, wildlife, park activities and Anglian Water’s services.

Plans

The course was designed to follow DDA access guidelines making it wheelchair friendly. We wanted it to be both challenging but also fun so that children of all ages would find it interesting and fun to play.

Our work

Using different coloured carpets, carved features, bicycle wheels, pipes, multi-level holes and a boat, we were able to be creative with the features and our exclusive kerbing blocks, timbers and block paving complimented each other perfectly.

The results

The course has proven to be a popular attraction since its opening and a welcome addition to the park and new camp site. It was great to receive feedback from Alton Water about the amount of people playing on the course and giving the course 5 star reviews online.

And finally…

When Covid-19 struck, after the first lockdown had ended, the management reported a boom in player participation helped by the fact it was an outdoor activity that was naturally self-distancing and offered great value fun for all to enjoy.
