2019 has been another great year for UrbanCrazy. Our team have been involved in some really interesting and exciting projects and have had a ‘ball’ along the way.
And as we ‘swing’ into 2020, we hope to ‘tee’ up another fun year ahead… here are some highlights from this year: Read more
Our Jon’s brief was to make a pyramid of golf balls “like the Ferrero Rocher tower with a tunnel through it” for a minigolf obstacle. With this the thoughts and opportunities spiralled with the different choices we had. Starting from the geometry of the Great Pyramid of Giza (51.5° side angle) and a maximum footprint size, it was time to play with some ideas to see the scale this beast would be.
What incredible weather we’re having already and it’s not even July yet! The mercury keeps tipping over 30°C and we’re having some of the hottest June days since 1976! Not so great if you’re stuck indoors – but perfect if you’re outdoors – and even more perfect if you fancy a spot of mini golf. Read more
In the last few weeks I’ve had bundles of fun coming up with ideas and creating this one-off 9-hole crazy golf course for JW3. The family-friendly course is themed around Rio’s summer of sport and is now fully-installed on site. It will be open every day – except Saturdays – from Sunday 17 July until Sunday 4 September.
Saltburn Promenade has been home to a fabulous new minigolf course since March 2016. We designed and built the course to offer an enjoyable game for visitors of all ages and a treat for the eyes, with cleverly-placed seaside-themed obstacles and features. You must putt past the surfboard, around the lighthouse, over the bridge, through the beach hut and down the Bagatelle for glory!

It was a huge thrill to be back at the London Golf Show for the sixth time entertaining visitors with our minigolf and ping pong activities. Alongside the course and tables we had a separate stand with special offers on a bright selection of themed and novelty golf balls. The show was a success for us with many rounds and games played, Christmas pressies sold and funds and awareness raised for our partner charity, On Course Foundation. It’s a very worthy cause, please take a look at their website. Read more
A chance visit to a garden centre sowed the ‘seed’ of an idea for Simon Fitton earlier this year, which, with a bit of help from UrbanCrazy, finally came into bloom in August.
As a golf pro and successful golf club owner Simon had been looking to ‘branch’ out into the world of mini-golf but had not found the right location for his venture. When he stopped off to take a call in the car park of Dobbie’s Garden Centre in Peterborough he knew he had found the ideal spot and immediately spoke to the manager. Within a few days things started to take ‘root’.
We at UrbanCrazy love things that are quirky, unique and a little different. Of course we were going to get ourselves in a tizz over a short independent horror movie based on, yes – you guessed it – crazy golf!
I spoke to the writer and creator, Chloe Philippou about how “Crazy Golf” came about… Read more
At UrbanCrazy we’ve come to the conclusion that the BBC absolutely loves crazy golf! To date this is the 7th time that our portable courses have appeared on the Beeb. For the latest instalment we went right back to where we started with ‘A Question of Sport’, but this time it was their spin-off show, ‘Super Saturday’. The production team gave us the brief to create a colourful and eye-catching course with 5 fairways, each of a different colour, all meeting at the central pentagonal green.
Being on a mission to visit and play all of the Minigolf, Crazy Golf and Adventure Golf courses in the UK we’re always on the lookout for new places to play.
There are over 600 courses in the country, ranging from 9-hole to 54-hole complexes, with layouts indoors as well as outside. Some are of the seaside classic ‘Windmill’ type of course, others are newer all-singing, all-dancing adventure-themed golf courses with animatronic dinosaurs, jungles, volcanoes and plenty of water features. The UK also has a number of grass putting greens and skill-based Minigolf courses. Read more
