Putting practice for The Open Championship

Sun, 16 Jul 2017  |  Jon Angel, UrbanCrazy

Last Thursday’s Clare Balding Show featured twice Olympic rowing gold medallist, Helen Glover, former F1 World Champion, Damon Hill and the popular and charismatic pro golfer, Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston.

So in honour of Beef’s imminent appearance in The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, Clare and her production team decided to organise a putting challenge between herself and all the guests and turned to us at UrbanCrazy to set up an extra-long hole in the studio, with some rather unusual obstacles. So who won the putt-off?

Well, with no one holing out it turned into a “nearest the pin” competition. The players had to play their shot under the ball pyramid, through the chimes and miss the specially customised windmill to get close. Check out the photo gallery and the BT Sport 1 clip to see which of the four players landed closest, winning a bottle of champagne.

The show’s recording was particularly exciting for James and me because, not only did we get an up close view of the interviews and minigolf competition, but we also got to meet Beef who was on top form, sharing some memorable stories with us and the audience about his life and career. It was quite an evening!
